Project: Guinea Gap Baths Wallasey

Located on the historic Guinea Gap Baths site, the modern fitness suite was an inspiring project. The project presented two distinct design challenges: the first originated from the client’s requirements – how to elaborate a relationship between the floor design and the suspended ceiling system. The second became a deeper questioning of how to approach the engineering of the suspended ceiling system.

The complexity of the project required a high degree of fluidity between the various aspects of the design. Part of the floor area was to be curved around the fitness suite and pool in some areas of fitness equipment, the ceiling was to follow the lines of the floor design. This environment was meant to create a flow and enable separation of fitness equipment for a member’s work-out.

A complex series of curved and circle canopies were erected between the various areas, with a defined reflection to the equipment areas. The new design integrated an Axiom Circle and curved canopy ceiling system and hydro-board ceiling tiles sourced from Armstrong.
